10 Greatest Musical Duos Of ALL TIME

1. John Lennon And Paul McCartney

The beauty of having a duo is getting a new partner to bounce your ideas off of. More than just the band dynamic, the yin and yang of these people can help push you to be a better entertainer as well as fill in the gaps where you slip up. As far as pop music is concerned though, you can't script a better symbiotic relationship than John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Then again, the relationship almost didn't even happen, with Lennon being initially hesitant to take McCartney on because of how similar they were. Aside from the affinity for old rock and rollers though, they fit in like a glove, oftentimes finishing each other's songs throughout the majority of the Beatles' tenure. Being almost foils of the other, the proper songwriting techniques of Paul McCartney were the ideal balance for Lennon's more adventurous and somewhat naive songwriting.

Even when the band started fracturing and they started to write independently, John and Paul always found themselves at each other's side in the studio, either helping out on a line or two or giving some words of encouragement, like when Lennon motioned for Paul to keep going when writing the lyrics to Hey Jude. Although there is no real bloodline in effect here, this is about as closest to musical soulmates as two people can get to each other.
