7. Madvillain
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4iR668Ki3I This one-off collaboration sees two of the early 2000s' biggest names in underground hip hop riding on all cylinders. Both MF DOOM and Madlib have not come close to surmounting the behemoth that is 2004's "Madvillainy." The comic book odyssey stands as the greatest representation of either musician's catalogue. The album itself is a celebration, with tracks such as "Rhinestone Cowboy," "All Caps," and "America's Most Blunted" leading the festivities. The reckless positivity of the album somehow does not derail it, nor is it tarnished when a staunchly political song such as "Strange Ways" comes into the mix. The record is an entertaining moment between two enigmatic figures. Save for one or two brief guest verses, the album is largely just DOOM and Madlib at their respective peaks. The average lengths of the songs on the record amount to around a minute and a half each, often abandoning fresh musical ideas as quickly as they are embraced. The album is a storm of creativity that rewards with every listen.
