10 Greatest Nu Metal Albums Of All Time
9. Make Yourself - Incubus
If you were a '00s kid, Incubus was the one band that no one was able to really categorize. From the funk rock of their roots to their alternative rock tendencies down the road, there's no real way to describe Incubus than...well...Incubus. However, once the '90s started to come to a close, these California rockers gave us their first stabs at nu metal with Make Yourself.
Right off the bat, this album is not nearly as hard-hitting as something like Coal Chamber or Stuck Mojo, but this gentler side of the nu metal genre helped get innocent teenagers to actually pay attention to what the scene was all about.
Putting your average teenager right into the pit with something like Roots by Sepultura could kill them, so it makes more sense that these guys gravitate to songs like Stellar before digging deeper down the rabbit hole.
For all that's been said about the "normal" approach to nu metal, there are still some decent heavy rock jams on this record like on Pardon Me, with guitars that feel like sonic brick walls hurdling towards you. Even if you're one of the few fairweather fans who just spin Drive every now and again, you owe it to yourself to take a deep dive on one of nu metal's most soft-spoken classics.
