10 Greatest Nu Metal Albums Of All Time

4. Deftones: Around The Fur

Korn debut album
Maverick

To listen through Deftones’ discography is to enjoy the constant audio evolution of Sacramento’s most creative band. If one puts on Around the Fur and then compares it to 2016’s Gore, it would be understandable to mistake them for different groups entirely.

Around the Fur was in and of itself a major step in the group’s evolution with various stylistic differences to their 1995 debut, Adrenaline. Fusing the sounds of alternative, shoegaze and new wave with their nu metal attitude, Around the Fur solidified the group as one of the most dynamic acts out there.

Recorded in just 4 months, the album is overflowing with exceptional tracks including the seminal singles, My Own Summer (Shove It) and Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away). Influencing an entire generation of rock and metal groups to come. It also boasts some of the heaviest tracks in the group’s history such as Rickets and Lotion.

Frontman Chino Moreno has often acknowledged Around the Fur as his favourite among the group’s many acclaimed records. A landmark moment in all of metal, Around the Fur opened countless ears to the creative opportunities heavier music can offer.
