10 Greatest Nu Metal Albums Of All Time

5. Papa Roach: Infest (2000)

Korn debut album
DreamWorks Records

For listeners today, Papa Roach may seem an ill-fitting entry on this list. The group’s many reinventions have directed them further and further into a pop-oriented rock that holds little in common with the grimy intensity of nu metal.

Regardless of the total image overhaul, however, Papa Roach’s second LP remains among the most important nu metal releases out there. Catchy, full of angst and utterly relentless, Infest lit a fire in headbanging crowds all over the world. Lead single Last Resort is filled with catchy hooks and the emotionally agonised vocals of front man Jacoby Shaddix. Broken Home hits up the pain of a dissolving family unit and the anti-consumerist, Fight Club-inspired Between Angels and Insects.

Infest was an instant hit with Last Resort quickly conquering the charts and cementing Papa Roach as the latest titans of nu metal. After years of struggling to secure a major record deal, Infest launched Papa Roach into the mainstream and they’ve remained residents ever since.

A musical microcosm of the angst and stress many endure in adolescence, Infest remains a nostalgic favourite a whole generation of listeners.
