10 Greatest One Hit Wonders Of The 1980s
8. Take On Me - A-ha
Every so often, there comes those songs that seem destined for the karaoke bars around the world. From the shout along choruses that we all know and love to the impressive mouthfuls that we try to take on ourselves, these are the songs that many a brave soul have embarrassed themselves trying to sing. While Under Pressure and Mr. Brightside certainly are a cut above the rest, Take On Me is still the one song that no one will touch.
Outside of its amazing high notes though, this is still one of the most enduring songs of the '80s for a damn good reason. Being one part new wave and one part new romantic, this is exactly the kind of love song that made the '80s work so well, down to the amazing synthesizer breaks in between the action.
And it's not like these guys didn't have some major boost from their music video either, featuring the iconic hand drawn animation that has aged phenomenally well by today's standards. Aside from their classic hit though, A-ha still managed to be a pretty respectable band all things considered, selling out stadiums in the international market and having some decent minor hits to latch onto in the mean time. For a band that looked like a flash in the pan on first glance, the fact that Take On Me hasn't lost its allure over the years is honestly a miracle.
