10 Greatest Pop Punk Albums In Rock History

1. Dookie - Green Day

As the grunge wave rose and fell in the early '90s, the entire rock scene was starting to look pretty bleak. Now that Kurt Cobain was no longer with us, there was a huge void in the music community as to who was going to take up the mantle of Voice of a Generation. While that hung in the balance though, a couple of brats from the outskirts of California gave us a reason to celebrate again.

With the release of Dookie, Green Day made the ultimate path for kids to move on past the doom and gloom of grunge's early days and into something a lot more carefree. From the opening notes of a song like Welcome to Paradise or Basket Case, these were songs meant to soundtrack the more fun parts of your life, even though the songs themselves might be a little bit dark when you look at them closely.

Of all of the records to come out of this period though, Dookie feels like the moment where the tone of the '90s began to drastically turn a corner. We needed something like grunge to clear out all of the hair metal schlock, but this was something much different. At long last, the '90s were about to be shown how to have some fun.
