10 Greatest Pop Punk Albums In Rock History

2. Weezer - Weezer

One of the biggest draws to pop punk in the early days was that it felt like music for the outsiders. Sure, the music itself may have been just the same kind of pop that came over the airwaves all the time, and yet the stars that were singing them felt closer to the people that you would hang out with after school rather than the pop starlets. Hell, if you're looking for the building blocks of the genre, Weezer hit the nail on the head by being the ultimate nerd experience.

If the awkward demeanor of everybody on the cover isn't a big enough hint, this is the kind of rock and roll that is meant to cater to the more nerdy stripe of rock and roller. Compared to the hair metal movement that had died just a few years earlier, songs like In the Garage and My Name Is Jonas were a lot more down to earth with what they were saying, whether it be talking about playing guitar for hours on end or playing D&D on the weekend.

And that's really the audience that Weezer was intended for all along. For as many people managed to relate to them on their first try, this is the kind of music reserved for that shy kid who might listen to a little too much rock in his room. He might be a little dorky, but there's pretty much no way to hate on him either.
