10 Greatest Pop Punk Albums In Rock History

9. All Killer No Filler - Sum 41

One of the biggest criticisms thrown in pop punk's direction is that you didn't need to be a genius to actually play it. From the looks of a band like Simple Plan or Good Charlotte from around the same time, all that you'd need was a little bit of hair gel and a basic knowledge of power chords to become the biggest band in the world. So what if you take that genre and pair it with a band that grew up listening to bands like Maiden and Priest?

Throughout All Killer No Filler, Sum 41 basically created a hard rock album in pop punk clothing, with songs that felt like they had a lot more in common with the harder side of punk rock. Before you get to the more radio friendly singles like Fat Lip, songs like Nothing On My Back and Handle This have a lot more muscle behind the guitar work, courtesy of Dave Baksh and Derick Whibley.

Even though these guys have clearly listened to some metal in their day, the tone of pop punk hasn't really changed all that much. If a song like In Too Deep is any indication, this is exactly the kind of mindless fun rock and roll that can get the party started without having to worry about stuff getting destroyed. It might not give their heroes like Maiden a run for their money or anything, but this is the soundtrack to one of the greatest pool parties of the '00s.
