10 Greatest Pop Punk Bands Of All Time
2. Blink-182
As the '00s started to rear its head, pop punk was just starting to become a thing. Though acts like Weezer may have paved the way for some more innocent sounding rock and roll in the late '90s, acts like the Offspring seemed just on the fringes of the pop punk genre. Picking up where the giants left off, Blink-182 were the ones to usher the genre into the new millennium.
While the first handful of Blink records were your standard skate punk affairs, the arrival of Enema of the State set the template for what every other pop punk act would sound like going forward. Often featuring tradeoffs between Mark Hoppus and Tom Delonge, the sounds of records like Take Off Your Pants and Jacket made this new style of punk rock palatable for the mainstream, with songs that will be played in middle schools until the end of time like First Date and All the Small Things.
Even after their initial teenage phase, albums like the self-titled as well as late period works like California show a growing sense of maturity, proving that the genre can work outside the confines of just the suburban kid crowd. Even though pop punk tends to have a time limit, if you stick around long enough, you manage to become something much greater than just teenybopper stuff.
