10 Greatest Posthumous Rock Songs
1. Mother Love - Queen
Freddie Mercury was always the embodiment of rock's power whenever you saw him. From the way he conducted himself in interviews to the way he tore up the stage at Live Aid, Mercury's penchant for entertainment made him a beacon of light even when rock seemed to be at its darkest. Though Mercury looked indestructible onstage, the rock world was devastated when he passed away the day after he announced to the world that he was battling AIDS.
However, Freddie kept busy up until his dying day, insisting that he record as much music as he possibly could while he still had the energy. On the surface, Made in Heaven is a fine tribute to Freddie's memory, with each member pulling their weight to do justice to the rockstar they were proud to call a friend. Even though all of the tracks feel like a celebration of life, you might want to keep the tissues handy for Mother Love.
As the song starts off, Freddie seems to be very weak, until the final high note he hits kicks the song into overdrive like it did in the old days. While the song continues, the rest of the vocals are sung with Brian May out front due to Freddie passing away before he could even finish his vocal. There have been plenty of posthumous records that make you feel sad, but a song like this is almost spine-chilling considering how determined Mercury was to get his material to his fans. So long Freddie...I hope the rock and roll ride was as good for you as it was for your fans.
