10 Greatest Queen Songs
9. Seven Seas Of Rhye
Queen’s first truly great song. It arrives on a nervy arpeggiated piano introduction, grabs your attention and doesn’t let go.
The track first showed up as a brief instrumental on the band’s self titled debut. They must have liked it because it reappeared as two minutes and forty seven seconds of thrilling hard rock on follow up Queen II.
The song ends on a playful note, with a cross fade into the band singing l Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside. This foreshadows Freddie’s interest in antiquated styles of British music, from music hall to cabaret, that would resurface on later Queen records.
Released as a single, Seven Seas Of Rhye became the band’s first UK top 10 hit.
