10 Greatest Queen Songs
4. Killer Queen
Early Queen records were mostly hard rock affairs, coloured, on occasion, by fey lyrical whimsey about faerie fellers and White Queens.
From the distinctive opening finger clicks, Killer Queen unveiled a new blend of glam rock and cabaret, demonstrating the peerless pop instincts that would define the band’s singles going forward.
Freddie's song about a high class call girl features elaborate four part harmonies, multi tracked guitars and two distinct bass lines, but never sounds too busy or cluttered. In fact the track sounds every bit as “fastidious and precise” as the song’s protagonist.
It would prove to be Queen’s breakthrough hit and a turning point for the band.
