10 Greatest Rock Albums That Are Totally Acoustic

9. Pink Moon - Nick Drake

Nick Drake tends to be one of the few '70s singer-songwriters whose name has been virtually lost to history. With only a few albums under his belt before dying young in his home, he was never poised to become the same big rockstar as Jeff Beck or Joe Perry. However, his final statement on Pink Moon still holds up as some of the sweetest acoustic music ever conceived.

Being of the folk variety, Drake's experimentation with different tunings stands out from the outset, with each track having an unstoppable hypnotic quality to it. For a guy who had nothing except a guitar and his voice at the best of times, it's virtually impossible to make your six-string sing as much as this one does. Once Drake opens his mouth though, his frail vocal delivery blends perfectly with his fingerpicking, as if he's trying to slowly rest you down to sleep.

That being said, the actual lyrics on here are pretty bleak, as Drake was suffering from severe depression before making the album. After checking himself into an asylum shortly after this was released, Drake would be dead before the album had a chance to become the classic that it is today. For as unassuming as it comes off from one track to the next, Pink Moon is one of the most serene pieces of folk rock that you'll ever lay ears on.
