10 Greatest Rock Frontmen Of All Time

7. Robert Plant - Led Zeppelin

As the 60's reached their end, Jimmy Page had quit the Yardbirds and found himself without a band. In an attempt to create something unique, he assembled the best musicians in Britain to create one of the greatest hard rock bands in history.

Though everyone in Led Zeppelin carried a certain amount of power, Robert Plant was the voice that bellowed from the deepest depths of Hell. The way that Plant asserted himself was incredibly forceful while never encroaching on Page's mad-scientist persona. Plant also penned lyrics to what would become Zeppelin's greatest works from "Kashmir" to "Stairway to Heaven."

When the band took to the stage, Plant made sure he put every inch of himself into his performance. No matter what arena the band would find themselves in, Plant's performances always turned those giant pavilions into a hot, sweaty, blues club. His vocal range had the perfect combination of the carnal, romantic, and vulnerable that made him a magnetic presence.

In an era of rock maturity, Robert Plant broadened the landscape of what a singer was capable of onstage. Though many have come after him, there is a reason that Plant is often regarded as the "Golden God" of rock frontmen.
