10 Greatest Rock Guitar Solos Of The 90s
9. Love is the Law - The Seahorses
Once the Britpop movement really started in earnest, the stench of hair metal felt a thousand years away. In the era that was focused on bands like Blur and Oasis, there were a lot of people that may have been a little embarrassed to say that they liked someone like Motley Crue back in the day. Though the more simple style of guitar playing was in at the time, John Squire was a guitar hero and made no apologies on Love is the Law.
Being the first major breakout for Squire after leaving the Stone Roses, this song is actually pretty downtempo compared to his earlier work, almost having a bit of a folksy feel to the song. If you had just listened to the single version of the song, you probably wouldn't be able to tell that this has a guitar extravaganza waiting for you on the proper album.
When you actually picked up the album Do It Yourself, that initial 3 minute single turned into a 7 minute long guitar jam, with John going off for the entire back half of the song. This isn't just the traditional ambient guitar track either, with a lot of the runs getting more and more chaotic as it goes along and sounding like a mix of a punk rock guitar player and someone like Slash from Guns N Roses. While bands like Blur and Cast may have been more focused on the song, there's nothing wrong with getting into the studio and letting it rip every now and again.
