10 Greatest Rock Music Album Covers Of The 1980s

1. Master Of Puppets - Metallica

Whether you heard it through Stranger Things or knew about it before it was cool, there's no denying how much the song Master of Puppets and the rest of the album it comes from absolutely slaps.

Still regarded as one of Metallica's best efforts, the record is praised by some for legitimising thrash metal in America.

As the popular expression goes, the Master of Puppets cover is a story of two halves.

On the bottom half, there's the striking images of snow white crosses stretching backwards as far as the eye can see.

On the top half, set against the blood red sky, there are a pair of demonic hands pulling on several strings.

Designed by the band themselves and their manager Peter Mensch, the cover represents all of the album's biggest themes. Political manipulation of the masses, the abuse of power, death itself. These are all summed up in a style that would some professional artists jealous.

Metallica really got going with Master of Puppets, so its only fair that it be remembered for having one of the greatest covers ever produced during the 1980s.
