10 Greatest Rock Music Album Covers Of The 1980s
2. Born In The U.S.A - Bruce Spingsteen
If you're going to make an album with the letters "U.S.A" in the title, then you'd better make sure that its cover is as aggressively American as possible.
Bruce Springsteen nailed this assignment with his seminal 1984 release Born in the U.S.A.
Thanks to songs like Glory Days, Dancing in the Dark, and the eponymous track, this album took that boy from New Jersey and catapulted him to superstardom.
Also, it showed everyone that he had a nice bum.
The picture of Brucey's behind that adorns the cover of Born in the U.S.A was taken by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz. She famously took a portrait of Yoko Ono and John Lennon just five hours before the ex-Beatle was murdered.
As well as giving people something to thirst over, the photo also sums up America in a single image.
The blue jeans, the white top, the belt buckle, the red cap in the back pocket, this is the working class States to a tee and it helps get listeners thinking before they've even hit play.
This record and its cover have become icons for a reason - they're just that damn good.
