10 Greatest Rock Music Album Covers Of The 1980s

7. Eliminator - ZZ Top

When an album cover ends up becoming an emblem for an entire band, you know something has gone right.

The beardiest men of all time ZZ Top released Eliminator in 1983.

Much like with Slippery When Wet, the album contains some of the band's best-known songs; Gimme All Your Lovin'; TV Dinners; Legs; Sharp Dressed Man.

All present and accounted for.

If you've ever seen the video for the songs on this album, you'll notice a running theme; a sleek red car used by the group to get around.

This customised 1933 Ford coupe was actually owned by ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons and was included on the cover of Eliminator thanks to a suggestion from producer Bill Ham.

The car is an absolute beaut, cutting through the darkness of the album's background with its bright red paintjob and blazing yellow headlights. It just screams cool, as does the entire record.

Fun fact, the Eliminator car still belongs to Gibbons, who keeps it at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

If you're in that area and see a red vintage car on the roads, that's probably Billy taking the old gal for a spin.
