10 Greatest Rock Music Album Covers Of The 1980s

8. Slippery When Wet - Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi's third album, Slippery When Wet, is one of those records you can't quite believe exists.

It is a hair metal fan's dream come true, stuffed to the gills with some of the biggest and best songs the band ever did. You Give Love a Bad Name, Wanted Dead or Alive, Livin' on a Prayer, all of these songs are one album.

People at the time must have thought they'd hit the jackpot.

Slippery When Wet sold 12 million copies in the United States alone, meaning that millions of households were home to this astonishing cover art.

It's so simple yet so eye-catching all at once. A moistened black background (which is actually a garbage bag, if you can believe it) with the name of the record written with someone's finger.

There really isn't much to it, yet it has so much character.

Originally, the album cover was going to be a buxom young woman wearing a bright yellow t-shirt with the title written across that. However, it was feared that major record stores would refuse to carry that version, so the band defaulted to plan B.

And thank heavens they did.
