10 Greatest Rock Music Cover Songs Of The 2000s

8. Since U Been Gone - A Day To Remember

In 2002, Kelly Clarkson won the first season of American Idol, catapulting her to global fame and completely turning her life upside-down.

Money, recognition, admiration, these were all side effects of Clarkson’s big victory, as was the unforeseen outcome of one of her songs getting covered by a metalcore band.

Three years after the original version dropped, A Day to Remember released their own version of Clarkson’s song Since U Been Gone. Since it was the 2000s, the word “You” was obviously represented by a single letter.

ADTR’s attempt at the track goes much harder, incorporating drop chords and even some screaming vocals into the mix. There are double drum fills and everything; not bad for something that originally reached number two in the Billboard charts.

Since U Been Gone is now as much ADTR’s song as it is Clarkson’s, as the band have played it hundreds of times live since 2007. They didn’t change too much about the actual structure of the track, but put enough of their own spin on it to claim a very poppy number for the metal community.
