10 Greatest Rock Music Gigs Of The 1990s
7. Red Hot Chili Peppers Magik Tour
If you were a betting man, there was no way that you were putting your money on the Red Hot Chili Peppers being one of the biggest bands in the world at their inception. Since these were guys who were known to wear only socks over their more delicate areas, this was the kind of music that was reserved for only a specific niche. When they did manage to acquire a taste of success, they made the most of their shot on the tour for Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
That's not to say that the shows weren't marred with controversy though, with John Frusciante getting more and more uncomfortable at every show and quitting the band right as they were about to go onstage at one of the final dates. When they were on, they gave you one of the most off the wall shows of any band of the decade, from Anthony Kiedis flying all over the place to Flea being suspended by his feet and lowered onto the stage at some dates.
Besides the great sounds of funk, the opening acts were also generating a ton of buzz, featuring Pearl Jam as the opening act and second on the bill being a little upstart band called Nirvana. While rock music was starting to shift, this one tour alone gave you everything you needed to know about music's future.
