10 Greatest Rock Music Gigs Of The 1990s

8. Woodstock 1994

Once the '90s really started to hit their stride, the idea of bringing back the Woodstock festival seemed a little silly at first. Since this was the era of agitated punks and alternative kids looking to deviate from the norm, where did the peace and love vibes from the '60s fit into everything? When everything started to unfold, we were treated to one of the greatest festivals the world had ever known.

While the titans of rock like Metallica and Aerosmith certainly left their impression that day, the attention started to shift to the new school of rock that was just emerging. Taking advantage of the bad weather, Nine Inch Nails came out completely drenched in mud, as they tore through anthems like Terrible Lie and Head Like a Hole with a sense of reckless abandon that few other bands have been able to capture since.

The next few days had even more mayhem in store, with Green Day making the most of their set time by getting into a full-on mud fight with the crowd, which ended with Billie Joe Armstrong throwing his guitar down and slinging piles of mud back at the unruly "mud hippies" that he saw in front of him. While most of the non musical moments got the biggest buzz, the world came out of these few nights with different kings of the rock world.
