10 Greatest Rock Music Guitar Solos Of The 1980s

1. Master Of Puppets - Metallica

The only problem with mentioning the immense Master of Puppets from Metallica's 1986 album of the same name, is having to work out which of its two amazing guitar solos to talk about.

Of all the problems to have, it's one of the nicer ones.

There's the softer, more melodic solo prior to the bridge, which is so iconic that crowds at Metallica live gigs with often sing along with it. Then there's the one that comes immediately after the bridge, which is Kirk Hammett showing off why he is way cooler than any of us are or ever will be.

Both segments are vital to what makes this track so great, adding to that air of a classic suite that elevates it above so many other long, plodding thrash songs from this period. It might seem like a cop out, but the top spot of this list goes to both of these masterpieces, as Master of Puppets simply wouldn't feel right without either of them.

There's a reason Eddie Munson picked this as the song to save the world in Stranger Things.
