10 Greatest Rock Music Guitar Solos Of The 2000s
4. Sloe Gin - Joe Bonnamassa
In 2007, modern blues champion Joe Bonnamassa released an album called Sloe Gin, which takes its name from a cover song featured on the tracklist.
Who did Bonnamassa decide to emulate? B. B. King? Eric Clapton? Rory Gallagher? Nope. The original Sloe Gin was performed by Tim Curry, the actor who played Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island.
He’s been in other stuff too, but nothing as important as that.
Of course, Bonnamassa’s version is completely different from Curry’s. He turns into a guitar epic of biblical proportions, with multiple chances to show off just why he’s regarded as one of the great players of modern times.
You could choose any extended portion of guitar work from Sloe Gin for this entry, as they’re all pretty spectacular. Bonnamassa gets the very best out of his instrument, raising the emotional stakes of this desperate song every single time.
At over eight minutes long, it’s not a short song by any stretch, but if you have the time to spare, you should check it out.
To think that none of this would have been possible without the concierge from Home Alone 2.
