10 Greatest Rock Music Guitar Solos Of The 2000s

5. No One Knows - Queens Of The Stone Age

For all the great work that Queens of the Stone Age have done since 2002, to many, they are still “that band that did No One Knows”. To be fair, there are worse things to be known for.

The lead single from their legendary Songs for the Deaf album, No One Knows is another song with a very familiar video, which depicts the band members being hunted by a deer in a cruel reversal of fates.

Viewers of the video will know that the song’s solo is played by frontman Josh Homme and that he does a damn good job at it. It’s split into two parts; one thrashing, crashing section before a brief bass interlude, and then a more technical part after that, as Homme slowly builds to a complete dropout of the music, except for a simple bass riff.

No One Knows is a great song through-and-through, but the solo does a lot to break-up what might have been a monotonous experience otherwise. It’s wild and freeform without ever getting too far out of hand, and one of many reasons why this is the Queens’ most lasting hit.
