10 Greatest Rock Music Guitar Solos Of The 2010s

5. The Garden - Rush

In 2012, after a long and successful career full of highs and lows, the Canadian band Rush decided to call it quits with one final album named Clockwork Angels.

It got great reviews, with many critics sad to say goodbye to a band that clearly had so much left in the tank. There were five singles released from Clockwork Angels, the fifth and final one being The Garden, making it the last ever Rush single release as of this writing.

And what a release it was.

A contemplative number with singer Geddy Lee looking back on his life, it’s guitarist Alex Lifeson who really shines on this song. His solo is heavy with the weight of longing embodied in the lyrics and overall feel of the track, adding even more stakes to this highly emotional tune.

For a band famous for their wild epics, The Garden is a very different tact from Rush and a bold move to take on their final ever album. Thankfully, it paid off big time, due in no small part to Lifeson’s fantastically tasteful guitar work.
