10 Greatest Rock Music Guitar Solos Of The 2010s

4. Midnight In Harlem - Tedeshi Trucks Band

Helmed by married couple Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, the Tedeshi Trucks Band are a massive ensemble blues rock band that have amassed a dedicated cult following since their 2011 debut album. That record was called Revelator and it won the group a Grammy for Best Blues Album. It also spawned what is probably their best-known song - Midnight in Harlem.

Even though it’s an original piece, the song sounds like it has existed for decades, like it’s some blues standard that the band co-opted for their own use. This is a testament to their ability to tap into the genre’s core, especially when it comes to Trucks’ astonishing solo.

Trucks is regarded by many as the best slide guitar player working today, and he proves exactly why with this mammoth two-minute outro solo. Like the rest of the song, it feels timeless, like something that could have been played by B. B. King in his prime.

It starts slow and eventually builds to a glorious climax, bringing the song up and down one last time before wrapping things up in a neat little bow.

If you haven’t heard it yet, then do yourself a favour and seek it out.
