10 Greatest Rock Music Guitar Solos Of The 2010s

3. Cry Of Achilles - Alter Bridge

With 2013’s Fortress, Alter Bridge showed everyone how you open an album right, as the opening track, Cry of Achilles, is an absolute beast.

A sweeping six-minute epic, the song is every bit as mythic and powerful as its namesake, only this time it has no weakness, not even in its heel.

Of course, what would a brilliant Alter Bridge song be without an incredible solo from one of the 21st century’s greatest shredders, Mr. Mark Tremonti? He’s great throughout this whole album, with Bleed It Dry and Water Rising also serving as highlights, but on Cry of Achilles, he outdoes himself.

There’s a short solo around the five-minute mark, which is pretty awesome, but the song’s pièce de résistance is its ending, which is Tremonti going ham on his guitar with one last triumphant flurry of notes to guide this masterpiece down the final stretch.

The only problem with opening an album with something this good is that there’s nowhere else to go next. Thankfully, Alter Bridge are that damn good, and the whole of Fortress is banger after banger after banger.
