10 Greatest Sequel Songs In Rock Music History
9. Part II - Paramore
Towards the beginning of the 2010's, Paramore were turning into a far different band than the one that we got to know back on Riot!. On their self titled record, almost all of the rock edge had been stripped away from their sound, being replaced with a signature pop polish that sounded closer to power pop than traditional punk music. Hayley Williams hadn't forgotten the band's roots though, especially when it came time to look back to the past.
As if the title didn't clue you in enough, this is a callback to the album cut Let the Flames Begin, which stood as one of the most vulnerable songs that Hayley had written at the time. Picking up almost exactly where the last track left off, this is what happens once those flames start to quell, only to be left with trying to nurse yourself back to health.
While this kind of song may have come off as whiny in the days of the pop punk explosion, giving this song time to bloom gives the band a lot more perspective when they perform it. Although it might not be the end of the world like you thought it was, it's not going to be easy to come out on the other side by any stretch. You have to take it a day at a time, and Paramore have clearly done some soul searching in between these two songs.
