10 Greatest Sequel Songs In Rock Music History
4. Hemispheres - Rush
Sometimes it feels like you need a master's thesis to truly understand what Rush is capable of. Even in the prog heavy circles from back in the day, there were a lot of moments in these Canadians' discography that were a bit much to take in all at once. And if you thought that a gargantuan 10 minute epic wasn't big enough, what if I told you it didn't really end once the record was over?
As you go through A Farewell to Kings, Cygnus X1 is one of the most dramatic moments on the entire record, as Geddy Lee sings about a man venturing into new lands in space before getting caught in the crippling pull of a black hole. Just when you think that destruction is going to set in though, everything slows to a calm ending on the record. That's because the song isn't really over, with the next album Hemispheres starting off with the second chapter of the saga by detailing what the man sees as he goes through the black hole.
Compared to the destruction of the first song, this is where he starts to see visions of different gods, like when he sees the towering mountains of Olympus in the skies. While this could have come off as unbelievably pretentious for any lesser band, this is the kind of song where it really pays to do your homework on what kind of band you were working with.
