10 Greatest Sequel Songs In Rock Music History

3. Jenny Was a Friend of Mine - The Killers

Oh...and you thought Pearl Jam started their career off on a weird note? The Killers are no exception to the rule if you look at the first songs they were creating. You mean that the rest of the album isn't the same kind of pop hooks that you got on Mr. Brightside? Afraid not, kids...you have to deal with a good helping of murder to kick the record off.

Being a part of the original Murder Trilogy that the band was making, every one of the tracks in this series got muddled when throwing together the track listing for Hot Fuss. When going through the storyline, the opener Jenny Was a Friend of Mine picks up directly where the song Midnight Show left off, with presumably Jenny looking to get out of town with the protagonist and begging him to drive faster. As things get more and more chaotic, you see the tone shift to his perspective more and more, to the point where Jenny starts to fade into the background.

Going back to the opening of the record, Jenny is dead and now the police have brought him in for questioning, considering he was one of the last people to see her alive. He seems to have his composure together until you get to the lines of her not being able to scream while he held her close. Without knowing it, this guy may have just confessed to her murder, and the writing is now on the wall. Where he's going, he's not going to need to worry about Jenny anymore, or anyone else for that matter.
