10 Greatest Shock Rock Acts
6. Misfits
1977 has gone down in history as the year defined by the punk rock revolution. After the Sex Pistols and Ramones set the world on fire, many bands came to the forefront brandishing a handful of power chords and a ton of attitude. Whereas these acts certainly had great moments of theatricality, The Misfits truly brought horror into the punk genre.
Under the direction of Glenn Danzig, the Misfits bled horror in every bit of their performances, from the manic tempos of their songs to their dark eyeliner and gothic facepaint. If you were to casually listen to the band's music, you may just pass them off as just another punk band, but the lyrics tell a different story. Throughout songs like "Hybrid Moments" and "Mommy Can I Go Out And Kill Tonight?," you hear spine-chilling tales of gruesome debauchery across tuneful punk.
The band had a huge impact on future horror punk titans like AFI and Alkaline Trio. The tunes were also so filled with darkness that they earned admiration from musical heavyweights from the Ramones to Metallica. As the band has reunited in recent years, fans can expect much more blood-curdling punk rock to come.
