10 Greatest Tribute Songs In Rock History
6. No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young) - Queen
What is there to say about Freddie Mercury that hasn't already been said a hundred times over?
The enigmatic leader of Queen is perhaps the greatest frontman in music history, combining musical theatre showmanship with rock machismo and a voice to end all voices.
On 23rd November 1991, Mercury issued a press release confirming that he was HIV positive and had contracted AIDS. The public didn't have long to take this information in, as just 24 hours later, Freddie was dead.
His sudden passing shook the entire world and the only thing the surviving band members could do was immortalise Mercury within the art form that he had dedicated his life to.
No-One But You wasn't written until 1997 and was the only song Queen performed as a three-piece. With Brian May and Roger Taylor sharing vocal duties, the song is a beautiful recognition of Mercury and all those who die too soon.
Of course, a Queen song without Freddie on it was never going to be as good, but the thought behind this record along with its subject matter elevates it to top tier status.
