10 Greatest Unplugged Albums In Rock History

8. Sitting Here In Silence - Noel Gallagher

It's no secret that Noel Gallagher didn't want to be the songwriter of Oasis for the rest of his life. Given the horrible relationship he had with his brother Liam over the 2 decades they were together, it's a miracle we even got them until 2009 to begin with. Just prior to the official split though, Noel seemed to at least be testing the waters.

Then again, it makes sense that Sitting Here In Silence would work for Noel's voice. He was already the one who subbed in for Liam back in the MTV Unplugged days, so to see him adopt the frontman role again is a nice change of pace. This isn't just your standard Oasis affair where they just go for the more ballad heavy material. In some cases, Noel takes the opportunity to completely recontextualize some of these songs, putting them in a smaller format and letting the melody do the talking.

Compared to the brilliant B-sides that we got to hear back in the day, these still feel like you're hearing the song for the first time, especially on the more epic tracks like Slide Away and It's Good to Be Free. The Gallagher Brothers' relationship was practically being held together by string and duct tape at this point, so it's nice to see that things would still be just fine with Noel on his own.
