10 Greatest Unplugged Albums In Rock History
7. In Your Honor (Disc 2) - Foo Fighters
The main calling card behind the Foo Fighters hasn't exactly been the most subtle. I mean, if you're looking for something that's a lot more introspective and heavy on your soul, your first choice is probably not the guy who played Satan in Tenacious D's The Pick of Destiny. When you're in the game for this long though, you start to get miles on your soul, and Dave Grohl had some searching to do on In Your Honor.
That is, the second half of it. On the first disc of the Foos' 5th record, it's your typical Foo Fighters affair, albeit with a more epic sound and tone to it. Once you hear the other side though, most of the songs are dominated by acoustic instruments, with Dave also being a lot more candid with his lyrics. Whereas songs like My Hero were a lot more universal in scope, you can hear how broken Dave feels on a song like Still or hearing him marvel at becoming a father on Miracle.
The lyrics aren't the only strength to this side either. Apart from the usual rock and roll sounds, Dave actually put a lot of time and care into these arrangements, like bringing in Norah Jones for some jazzy chords on Virginia Moon or the guitar duet happening at the end of On the Mend. Since this marked the 10th anniversary of the Foos as a band, this was Dave's way of saying that he was just getting started.
