10 Hard Rock Albums Artists Want You To Forget About
6. Adrenaline - Deftones
Every legendary band has to end up taking their first step whether they like it or not. Whereas some people may be hesitant to share their music with the world, some of the most impressive records ever to come out of the rock world have happened on the debut record, with everything falling into place right from the get go. If you don't have everything in place yet though, it can be like looking at old baby pictures.
That's not to say that Adrenaline by Deftones is necessarily bad though. As a nice bit of post grunge, this is probably one of the greatest records to come out of the mid '90s. Therein lies the problem though...it's a good record, but not a good Deftones record. Starting with their second album Around the Fur, almost every one of Deftones' later works pales in comparison to this, with Chino Moreno's vocals being a bit too awkward when placed in the mix.
While a little rough around the edges, Adrenaline feels akin to something like Pablo Honey by Radiohead, both of which are good at the time and yet look quaint next to everything else that came afterwards. The seeds of something great are on here...but these guys really had a lot of work to do before getting to something like White Pony or Diamond Eyes.
