10 Hard Rock Albums MUCH Better Than You Remember
6. A Thousand Suns - Linkin Park
The end of nu metal's reign in the mid '00s killed a lot of careers. After the era of baggy shorts and lyrics about teen angst went way out of style, a lot of the greatest acts of the genre didn't really have the song power to transition out of that era. Even though Linkin Park did an admirable job turning into an alternative rock band, they were looking to go even more ambitious than anyone had imagined.
As it stands today, A Thousand Suns is one of the more contentious records in LP's catalog, with half of the fanbase loving it and half absolutely loathing it. Make no mistake, this is definitely a different look for these guys, with a lot more electronic enhancements to go around.
While it's understandable that these new elements would be a big turn-off for long time fans, the actual execution has a lot more hits than it does misses, with songs like Wretches and Kings and Waiting for the End still having that lofty atmosphere that most Linkin Park songs are built around.
Granted, the instrumental interludes tend to get a bit monotonous after a while, but they do at least serve as great buildups to the epicness that is to come. Even though there was no possible way for Linkin Park to release another Hybrid Theory at this point, this sudden change is definitely underrated by its fanbase.
