10 Hard Rock Albums MUCH Better Than You Remember
3. Danger Days - My Chemical Romance
Success can be a mixed blessing even for the best of bands. Even though there's absolutely nothing wrong with having a record that resonates with a lot of people, the concept of making something even bigger to live up to it can be its own kind of burden.
My Chemical Romance certainly had their work cut out for them following up the Black Parade, but Danger Days was a lot greater than anyone gave it credit for.
Rather than double down on the dark songs that made them superstars, this record has a completely different sound and story in mind.
Pulling from the realm of electronica, this journey through a dystopian desert field is a lot more adventurous than many would come to expect, with tracks exploding with keyboard sounds left and right. At the same time, the core punk rock soul of the group hasn't gone anywhere either, as tracks like Party Poison and Vampire Money stampede across your eardrums from the minute they start.
While this album ended up selling like gangbusters, MCR officially decided to call it quits on this record, preferring to leave on a bang rather than a whimper.
Given that these guys could have just as easily dropped The Black Parade 2: Electric Boogaloo, the Mad Max stylings of this record has not diminished in the slightest after over a decade.
