10 Hard Rock Albums That Were A Nightmare To Make

7. The Great Southern Trendkill - Pantera

Pantera was one of the few saviors of metal in the 90's. When everyone else was jumping on the grunge and alternative train, these guys were creating some of the most brutal music ever created. Though the band kept getting better and better from Cowboys From Hell to Far Beyond Driven, it was a bit more complicated once they reached the Great Southern Trendkill.

Though Dimebag Darrell was still pumping out great riffs, the rest of the band started to become separated from Phil Anselmo, who was in the throes of heroin addiction. While the other records had been a group effort, this album was pasted together from two separate studios. Not wanting to be seen by his bandmates, Anselmo cut his vocal tracks in Trent Reznor's studio in New Orleans while the rest of the band laid down the backing tracks in their native Texas.

Though the band may not have been on the best of terms during the making of the record, tracks like "Floods" and both of the "Suicide Note" tracks remain some of the best tunes this band has ever created. The tracks may still hold up, but whenever you put on this record, just remember that you're listening to a band divided.
