10 Hard Rock Bands Who Made 3 Great Albums In A Row

5. Nirvana

Nirvana’s whole career is a great three album run, the grunge pioneers and rock legends are one of the rare bands with a perfect studio album discography.

1989s Bleach was recorded by Nirvana for $606 and went on to sell over two million copies; it identified what it meant to be “grunge” and captured the anxiety ridden, raw emotion of Seattle in the turning of the decade. It may have paved the way for the band to release their mainstream classic but Bleach is the neurotic gem of the collection and one of the all time great showcases of teenage angst. Only two years later the band would go on to record Nevermind and change the world forever - they reduced the sludginess of Bleach’s Seattle sound and wrote a heavy, aggressive album busting with melody and pop sheen. Once they became the biggest band in the world, like clockwork and another two year wait, In Utero came.

In Utero was (and still is) the antithesis of Nevermind. Sharper, rawer and frenzied, it is the sound of a man at his most fragile and one of the world’s greatest musical minds being funny, upsetting, poetic and bleak. There are only four years between these three masterpieces, incredible.
