10 Hard Rock Bands Who Made 5 Great Albums In A Row

8. Rush

Over their 50 years as a band, Rush made the kind of awe-inspiring, game changing prog rock that would inspire generations of musicians. Seeped in grandiosity and multi-levelled in its meaning, the music and artwork of Rush is still present all over pop-culture today. They were intelligent, creative and impassioned, and over the course of an insane five year streak, they wrote five albums that deserve to be buried in a time capsule along with every other hard rock classic.

1976s 2112 marked the start of a Rush that were dialing down on the hard rock to explore prog, they not only shocked everyone by writing such an epic album, but proved that they could be commercially successful doing it. 2112 marked the start of Rush being thrust into success, once there they released A Farewell to Kings (1977) and Hemispheres (1978), two all time greats, the latter not being afraid to push itself even if that meant being less accessible: it’s still deeply loved because it is that incredible.

Permanent Waves (1980) saw the band come back after a two year break and dial down the technicality for some excellent, simpler rock songs, then 1981s Moving Pictures ended the streak as (arguably) the band’s very best album. Catapulting them into the stratosphere, this album is equal parts technical, massive and emotional, it straddles the impossible line of being radio-friendly yet perfect for lovers of rock.

Now this is a great five album run.
