10 Hard Rock Bands Who Made 5 Great Albums In A Row

3. Metallica

Metal as we know it wouldn’t exist without Metallica. Through their dedication to pushing music faster and harder than it’s ever been played before, they not only pioneered a genre but proved to the mainstream that you can be heavy whilst having a deep understanding of the way that music works.

As inspired by Bach as Black Sabbath, ‘Tallica have become a band that could just as easily headline Glastonbury as the heaviest metal festival, they’re the ambassadors for metal and their run of Kill 'Em All (1983), Ride the Lightning (1984), Master of Puppets (1986), ...And Justice for All (1988) and Metallica (1991) is much of the reason why.

With each record in that five album run, the four piece of James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Cliff Burton (replaced by Jason Newstead after his death on the road in 1986) were full of fury, power and speed but never lost sight of melody or intricacy. Within this five album run are countless albums sold and countless bands inspired.

Metallica are a band of legends and their legacy will live on in every band that decides to make heavy music.
