10 Hard Rock Bands With KILLER Live Shows
7. Rush
It goes without saying that musicians have a lot more weight to carry on the stage rather than in the studio. Not only do you have to play your already-difficult material to the best of your ability, but also have to deliver little inflections to make every single show feel a little special to the people watching it. Some people use pyro, some people use flashing lights...Rush just turn their show into a circus act.
Granted, the idea of a power trio is already a tough job, with each member having to carry more or less equal weight to make everything hold up properly. However, Rush tend to go the extra mile, with drummer Neil Peart practically building a village of drums every time he played, including but not limited to chimes, timpanis, and even a gong back in their early days.
While Alex Lifeson has his own bag of tricks in his effects pedals, the real craziness comes with Geddy Lee's responsibilities. Being the bass player, Lee also commanded the keyboards onstage as well as controlled bass pedals with his feet, all while trying to sing at the same time. Even with all of the steps necessary to deliver the songs correctly, no one ever questioned the group's drive, as they refused to hire a supplementary member to fill out the sound. Being in a band like Rush might seem like work to some, but what you saw every time they hit the stage was some of the most professional musicians in history.
