10 Hard Rock Christmas Songs That Are Actually Good
2. Xmas - Corey Taylor
The holiday season has never run short on songs talking about the amazing parts of Christmas. Whether it's trying to get together with the family or celebrating the New Year in style, there is a relentless amount of joy that comes from writing a song for Christmas. At the same time, who says all Christmas songs have to necessarily be happy?
In one of the weirder left turns to come from the hard rock world, Corey Taylor's Xmas is a much more realistic depiction on what Christmas can really be like. Taking a more antagonistic approach, this song targets the more artificial side of the holiday season, where the commercialization and fake happiness that comes from your family is left front and center. This is further enhanced by the way Corey delivers these vocals, almost like he's a bizzaro world version of the narrator in Twas the Night Before Christmas.
Above all else, this song does a great job at highlighting the fact that, despite all of the cheeriness that comes with it, Christmas can be a bit rough for some people to endure throughout the holidays. Even though you could call this song mean-spirited, there's a lot of black humor in this that many people might not want to admit is true. Christmas time can be a fun-filled ride for many people, but sometimes we need songs like this to keep us in check.
