10 Hard Rock Debut Albums That Suck
6. UFO 1 - UFO
UFO still remains one of the many undiscovered gems of the '70s hard rock scene. Though the band did give the world one of the greatest soloists of all time in Michael Schenker, you were hardpressed to find them on rock radio even at the best of times. So if they can't even get on the air with some of their greatest work, what chance do they have when they're still working out the bugs?
Yeah, instead of the bluesier hard rock of songs like Lights Out or Rock Bottom, UFO 1 is a different beast entirely. Whereas Schenker would make a riff that could tear your head off, this album takes the moniker quite literally, with songs that are much more space themed than rock based. Though there are some hints at their later potential on their cover of the Bo Diddley song Who Do You Love, it just isn't on the same level of what they would be when Schenker was brought into the fold.
Even though these guys were as green as they come at this juncture, it just reads like they wanted to spend their time making a cheap knockoff of an ELO record. You can't really hold their next albums against them, but if this was their A-material, it was no wonder that they couldn't get arrested in the beginning.
