10 Hard Rock Debut Albums That Suck
7. Trouble - Whitesnake
It's virtually impossible to think of the hair metal movement gaining as much traction if it hadn't been for Whitesnake. Though David Coverdale's band of misfits had already had their fair share of hits under their belt, the release of songs like Here I Go Again and Is This Love is what really brought them into the big leagues of rock gods. On the other hand, we will not being seeing said magic on Trouble.
Long before Whitesnake was even a group, it was originally just the name for one of Coverdale's solo albums before metamorphosing into an actual band. While Trouble is by no means a terrible album from back to front, it just is not what you come to Whitesnake for. From one track to the next, you can still tell that these guys are trying to work out the bugs, with most of it being just a bunch of bluesy licks with Coverdale's voice slapped on top. Their cover of the Beatles' Day Tripper still remains one of the weirder ventures they have even taken on.
Seeing how this was produced by the same guy who manned the boards for Deep Purple's records, you can tell that Coverdale just wanted to play it safe and try to get by on the goodwill of his previous band. You're definitely getting there, but David, buddy, you know you can do better than this.
