10 Hard Rock & Metal Bands With No Original Members Left
3. Opeth
When it comes to the proggier side of metal, Opeth pretty much has you covered with everything you need. From the word go, albums like Ghost Reveries and Blackwater Park are practical masterclasses on how to create some of the most morose sounding metal music ever conceived by man. Though the crux of the glory goes to Mikael Akerfeldt over the years, Opeth's original incarnation is like night and day compared to what we have nowadays.
Formed in Sweden in the late '80s, the original lineup had David Isberg as the real captain of the ship, with Dan Nilsson and Martin Persson rounding out the lineup. After 1990 though, Isberg was back at square one again with a whole new lineup, complete with Akerfeldt in tow along with Anders Nordin, who contributed to their debut Orchid as well as Morningrise. However, the creative differences between Isberg and the rest of the group began to reach a head as time went on, leaving Akerfeldt to take over as the group's new lead singer.
Compared to the other band reboots, this is one of the few times where the "new and improved" version is actually an improvement, as Akerfeldt became one of the most astonishing riff writers in recent memory. Even with the revolving cast of characters, here's hoping that there's still more dark glory looming just on the horizon.
