10 Hard Rock Music Artists Who Released Two Great Albums In 2 Consecutive Years
7. Sonic Youth - Sister & Daydream Nation
There was a six year period from the mid-80s to the early 90s where Sonic Youth were releasing one album every single year.
It probably helped that these albums were being recorded on a dishwasher and cost about two dollars to make.
We're focusing on the tail end of this period and the year in which this plucky gang of indie heartthrobs finally made it big.
Prior to the summer of 1987, Sonic Youth didn't really stick to conventional song templates. They preferred to experiment, which is fine, but might also explain why they never made any money.
This all changed with Sister, their fourth album. It was still a little on the unconventional side, but it showed that the band were ready to go more mainstream and were more than capable of doing so.
Then, one year later, we go Daydream Nation.
Considered the band's magnum opus, Daydream Nation felt like the band's potential was finally being met. Songs like Teen Age Riot and Silver Rocket are some of the best they ever did and grabbed the attention of non-underground music fans.
At this point, the money was definitely rolling in.
