10 Hard Rock Music Covers You Wish Never Happened

8. Love Will Tear Us Apart – Fall Out Boy

In the 2000s, Fall Out Boy proved that the world wanted what they had to offer, a little bit of fun in the form of inoffensive indie-pop-punk. It wasn't the most inspiring or innovative moment in the history of rock evolution, but this brand of rock had its place.

Tracks like, This Ain't A Scene, Sugar We're Going Down and Dance Dance might not hold their own against some of the more prestigious rock songs ever written. But, for any millennial who was a teenager during the height of their popularity, it's likely you had at least one of these tracks, taking up valuable space on your Sony Ericsson Walkman or iPod Shuffle.

In 2004 they attempted to breath new life into Joy Divisions post-punk anthem, Love Will Tear Us Apart. It was a bold move. But, alas a move that was poorly advised. Ian Curtis's pained reflections about a struggling marriage and mental illness was too deep a subject matter for Fall Out Boy to handle.

Doing away with the driving bass and classic synth lines of the original might have been an inspired move, but what they replaced it with ultimately made their rendition sound empty.

It was simply the case, that the Fall Out Boy sound just didn't lend itself to the post-punk classic track.
